Chub Shorts

Sorry folks between the holidays, my ski vacation, and the start of a new semester I haven't been able to update the blog for a while. I did however stumble across a new brand yesterday, Chubbies, & I could not resist sharing it with you. I also figured it would be appropriate considering the oddly warm weather, which we have become accustom to here in the South. Chubbies is the new standard for frat-shorts and pairs with a frocket or oxford depending on whether you wanna dress them up or dress them down. So when stocking up for the rage of the year known as Spring Break, remember chubbies. And as always sky's out = thighs out.-T.

Tees.

Really it couldn't be that simple, but yes here in the south faded long sleeve tees are where it is in during this warm December. I like the brands southern tide and collard greens only to name a few.-T.

Fall Outerwear

Informal Fall outerwear is one of the most important components of the autumnal wardrobe. Not only does it add another layer of warmth, it gives you the chance to add another layer of style. As we get into full swing of October, temperatures are really starting to plunge here in the South with lows edging the lower forties on some nights and highs around sixty [but it may be 90 next week]. For days like these, you may have transition from a midday vest to a nighttime jacket. For instance, this past weekend a vest and button-up shirt was appropriate for the 1:30pm kickoff, but when dusk rolled around and winds picked up I was forced to pick something with a sleeve before heading to an outdoor music festival. As for brands The Northface and Columbia are very popular a choices. Patagonia is also a very good brand, similar to The Northface, that I believe is severely underrepresented in today's street style.
I personally like the grey vest because it doesn't show lint as easily as black, and still pretty much goes with anything especially blue. I also believe that hunter orange is going to be a popular color this year.
Patagonia Men's Better Sweater Vest; Available at patagonia.com $99

Patagonia Men's Nano Puff Pullover; Available at patagonia.com $169

Patagonia Men's Synchilla Snap-T; Available at patagonia.com $119

Young Republican

Saw these today on bonobos and couldn't help but share.  With election season swiftly approaching, I cannot think of a better way to make yourself stand out at all the local campaign events. These pants are sure to get a higher approval rating than any candidate.

Don't forget the patriotic bow tie. T.

Fall Denim and Khakis

Read my previous fall article: http://southernslice.blogspot.com/2012/09/as-summer-begins-to-wind-down-and-long.html

For fall you'll want to put away the summer linens and khaki shorts by the third week of September, but I wouldn't put them in the back of the closet too quickly. You know how unpredictable the weather can be in the South. Nevertheless, it's time to start working thicker khakis, dress slacks, and denim to the front. I'll start with denim. Denim does not have to be expensive, which is a good thing since it is an important part of the everyday casual wardrobe. In a previous post I recommended the Big Star Jeans, and I still stand by that decision [even though there jeans can be too edgy at times]. Another brand of denim that are especially good for fall is 7 For All Mankind, stick with dark washes for fall and winter. Note: You'll also want bootcut jeans so you have no trouble slipping your jeans over weather permitting footwear.

A-Pocket Original Bootcut in New York Dark; From 7forallmankind.com $169
As for fall khakis, I recommend a couple pair of "The Khakis" from bonobos, who obviously thinks these are "the" best khakis around (I would agree, although there are a few other brands I like too). These again are bootcut and 100% cotton. To warm things up try a pair of wool socks from the local department store.
"The Khakis" available at bonobos.com $88

Fall

As summer begins to wind down and a long awaited shift in temperature looms just around the corner, it becomes the time to break out the light jackets and long sleeves for autumn in the South. While most people would search for the latest trends for the Fall Season of 2012. I like to promote a different style of dress, which can include some "trendier" pieces from classic brands but prominently focuses on classic staples that will be in style season after season. I also suggest investing in one or two extremely high end items of clothing for each season.  And for those of us on a budget keep in mind that you can sometimes find these items for half price during the next seasonal transition. So, here's what I like.
Cashmere V-Neck from BB $398; Available at brooksbrothers.com

The Hadley Shirt in Bayfront Gingham from Southern Point Co. $60; Available at southernpointco.com

The Hampton Houndstooth Sport Shirt from Southern Marsh $75; Available in Red or Black atsouthernmarsh.com

More affordable & casual Fall options coming soon including pants, jackets, and shoes. -T
